Take this quiz to find your ideal pair of glasses.

Which glasses for which face shape?

You need to protect your eyes from blue light emitted by screens, but don't know how to choose your frames? You're aware that screens tire your eyes and want to wear glasses, but you're not ready to sacrifice your look?

In this guide, Le Petit Lunetier explains how to choose the right frame so that, even behind lenses, you'll always have more style than your neighbour!

After all, don't they say the eyes are the windows to the soul? It would be a shame not to give them the most beautiful frame possible!

1/ MATCH YOUR GLASSES TO YOUR FACE SHAPE

This is the best way to choose the ideal pair of glasses! To work out your face shape, study it in front of a mirror. If this method doesn't work for you, take a selfie and, in a photo-editing app, trace the outline of your face (without the ears). The shape will then appear more clearly.

  • You have a round face

You have a round face if it has curved lines, no angles, and is as wide as it is long.

Which glasses for a round face?

Our recommended frames for a round face: rectangular glasses · square · cat-eye.

Round faces will opt for a slender frame with sharp angles. These styles will break up the roundness of the features by elongating and slimming the face. Your eyes will appear larger. If you'd rather emphasize your features, go for rounder shapes.

  • You have an oval face

You have an oval face when it's longer than it is wide.

Which glasses for an oval face?

Our recommended frames for an oval face: round · rectangular · pantos.

All frames will suit an oval face! Your only limits will be those imposed by your style and personality. For info, round frames will tend to make you look younger, while rectangular glasses will give oval faces a more dynamic, assertive look.

  • You have a triangular face

The face "points upwards". Your forehead is narrower than the lower part of your face. Your cheeks and chin are more pronounced.

Your face "points downwards". Your forehead is wider than the lower part of your face (inverted triangle). You have long eyebrows.

Which glasses for a triangular face?

Our recommended frames for a triangular face: cat-eye · aviator · round.

The aim is to create the illusion of a wider forehead and draw attention to the upper part of your face. To do this, choose brightly coloured or patterned frames.

Which glasses for an inverted triangular face?

Our recommended frames for an inverted triangular face: round · oval · pantos.

Here, the goal is to "reduce" the upper part of your face. Try frames with lower rims that are wider than the upper rims. Avoid bright colours. You can even try rimless frames! Forget cat-eye shapes, thick frames and extravagant geometric forms. To avoid reinforcing the "pointed" aspect of your face, leave frames that extend below your cheekbones to others. On the other hand, it's worth lingering over round shapes. In both cases, Le Petit Lunetier recommends very lightweight frames.

  • You have a rectangular or oblong face

You have a square face when your jawline is strong and your forehead is wide. The top and bottom of your face are as long as they are wide.

Which glasses for a rectangular or oblong face?

Our recommended frames for a rectangular face: round · oval · oversized.

The idea is to make your face appear less long and "rebalance the proportions". To help you, Le Petit Lunetier suggests glasses with a faded or contrasting frame, sufficiently "stretched" at the sides to widen your face. Frames with a low bridge will shorten slightly long noses. Another solution for adding width to your lovely face: opt for oversized round or oval glasses, in the "cat-eye" or "butterfly" style.

  • You have a square face

You have a square face when your jawline is strong and your forehead is wide. The top and bottom of your face are as long as they are wide.

Which glasses for a square face?

Our recommended frames for a square face: round · oval · pantos.

To add more character to your face shape and bring out your personality, go for bold geometric shapes! Avoid square glasses, precisely to "break up" the face's structure. If you prefer to soften your features, favour oval shapes and gentle lines. For a polished look, try slender frames and/or rounded shapes. And to harmonize everything, make sure your glasses are narrower than your face.

  • You have a diamond or rhombus face

You have a diamond or rhombus face when the vertical line (imaginary) connecting your eye to your jaw recalls the side of a diamond. Your cheekbones are wide.

Which glasses for a diamond (rhombus) face?

Our recommended frames for a diamond face: oval · cat-eye · round.

Go for geometric or oval frames. They'll create the impression of reducing the distance between your temples. Don't be put off by frames wider than your cheekbones: they'll suit you perfectly! As with rectangular faces, let yourself be tempted by cat-eye or butterfly shapes.

2/ WHICH FRAME COLOUR TO CHOOSE?

The trouble with traditional opticians is that the colours they offer for frames are often generic. Unfortunately, these colours won't necessarily suit blue eyes, brown eyes or green eyes equally. To choose your fashion accessory, the right approach is to identify the colour palette that will suit you best. This will depend on your eyes, of course, but also on your skin and hair.

To identify the perfect colours for you, here are a few tips:

  • They soften your face and add a touch of light.
  • They minimize any fine lines and dark circles.
  • They give you a healthy glow.

3/ DON'T FORGET YOUR FACE'S OTHER ASSETS.

  • The size of your head

You have a small head? Go for small frames, making sure the width of your glasses isn't greater than the widest part of your head.

You have a wide head? Then opt for frames that are wide too.

  • Your eyebrows

For your eyebrows and glasses to work in harmony, make sure the top of your frame sits just below your eyebrows. They contribute to your facial expression, so they must be visible! Besides, if your eyebrows were "trapped" inside your glasses frame, you'd risk losing all your natural poise!

If you choose a frame with a curved top line, make sure it follows the line of your eyebrows. The secret is to harmonize the shape of your eyebrows with that of your glasses as much as possible. Concretely, this means that if your eyebrows are straight, round lenses probably won't flatter you.

  • The spacing of your eyes

For those whose eyes are wide-set, Le Petit Lunetier recommends wearing a frame with a dark bridge. This will create the impression that your eyes are closer together. If, on the contrary, your eyes are already quite close together, opt for a light-coloured and/or slender bridge.

  • Your nose

Bridges with a very large contact surface with the skin create the illusion of shortening the nose. Short noses will favour high-set bridges and lighter colours.

4/ WHICH FRAME COLOUR TO CHOOSE?

Before letting you make your choice, here's our final advice:

  • The ideal style is one that follows the line of your eyebrows, provided the lenses don't touch your cheeks when you smile, and your lashes don't touch your lenses.
  • Whatever your face shape, your glasses should enhance its oval.
  • Your frame should sit between the outer corner of your eyes and the edge of your temple. If it extends beyond, the frame is too wide for your face.
  • Enjoy yourself! If you choose a pair that follows these recommendations but you don't feel comfortable in them, you won't wear them for long. Let your personality shine through!

Your lifestyle can also influence your choice. Sports enthusiasts will lean towards lighter styles, while café terrace lovers or screen addicts can allow themselves more freedom.

Note that all this advice applies equally to choosing your sunglasses and prescription glasses. However, if your prescription requires thick lenses, be aware that you'll probably have fewer options. Not all frames can support all lens thicknesses. To give you an example, progressive lenses require a "taller" frame.
