HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT PAIR
OF GLASSES?

Do you need to protect your eyes from blue light from screens, but don't know how to choose your pair of glasses? Are you aware that screens tire your eyes and want to wear glasses, but you're not ready to sacrifice your look?

In this guide, Le Petit Lunetier explains how to choose your frame so that, even behind lenses, you'll always have more style than your neighbor!

After all, aren't eyes said to be the mirrors of the soul? It would be a shame not to give them the prettiest frame possible...!

1/ MATCH YOUR GLASSES TO YOUR FACE SHAPE

This is the best way to choose the ideal pair of glasses! To find out your face shape, examine it in front of a mirror. If this method doesn't work for you, take a selfie and, in a photo editing app, trace the outline of your face (without your ears). The shape will then appear more clearly.

  • You have a round face

You have a round face if it has curved lines, no angles, and is as wide as it is long.

WHAT GLASSES TO CHOOSE?

Round faces will opt for a thin frame with pronounced angles. These glasses styles will break the roundness of their features by elongating and refining their face. Their eyes will appear larger. If you prefer to emphasize your features, choose a frame with more rounded shapes.

  • You have an oval face

You have an oval face when it is longer than it is wide.

WHICH FRAMES WILL ENHANCE YOUR FEATURES?

All frames will flatter an oval face! The only limits will therefore be those imposed by your style and your personality. For your information, round frames will tend to make you look younger, while rectangular glasses will give oval faces a more dynamic and assertive look.

  • You have a triangular face

The face "points upwards". Your forehead is narrower than the lower part of your face. Your cheeks and chin are more pronounced.

Your face "points downwards". Your forehead is wider than the lower part of your face (inverted triangle). You have long eyebrows.

HOW TO ENHANCE THIS TRIANGULAR FACE?

The goal is to create the illusion of a wider forehead and draw attention to the upper part of your face. To do this, choose brightly colored or patterned frames.

HOW TO ENHANCE THIS TRIANGULAR FACE?

Here, the goal is to "reduce" the upper part of your face. Try frames with lower edges that are wider than the upper edges. Avoid flashy colors. You can even try rimless frames! We definitely avoid butterfly shapes, thick frames, and extravagant geometric shapes. To avoid accentuating the "point" aspect of your face, leave frames that go below your cheekbones to others. On the other hand, we gladly focus on frames with rounded shapes. In both cases, Le Petit Lunetier advises you to choose very light frames.

  • You have a rectangular or elongated face

You have a square face when your jawline is strong and your forehead is wide. The top and bottom of your face are as long as they are wide.

WHICH FRAME FOR THIS FACE SHAPE?

The idea is to make your face appear less long and to "rebalance the proportions". To help you with this, Le Petit Lunetier suggests glasses with discolored or contrasting frames, sufficiently "stretched" on the sides to widen your face. Frames with a low bridge will shorten slightly long noses. Another solution to give your pretty face width: opt for oversized round or oval glasses, like "cat eye" or "butterfly" styles.

  • You have a square face

You have a square face when your jawline is strong and your forehead is wide. The top and bottom of your face are as long as they are wide.

WHICH FRAME TO CHOOSE?

To give more "pep" to your face shape and bring out your personality, opt for bold geometric shapes! We'll avoid square glasses, precisely to "break up" the face morphology. If you prefer to soften your features, favor oval shapes and soft lines. To refine your style, try thin frames and/or frames with rounded shapes. And to harmonize everything, make sure your pair of glasses is narrower than your face.

  • You have a diamond or lozenge face

You have a diamond or lozenge face when the imaginary vertical line connecting your eye to your jaw resembles the side of a lozenge. Your cheekbones are wide.

WHICH GLASSES TO CHOOSE?

Go for geometrically shaped or oval frames. They will give the impression of reducing the distance between your temples. Don't be intimidated by frames wider than your cheekbones: they will suit you perfectly! As for rectangular faces, let yourself be tempted by "cat eye" or butterfly shapes.

2/ WHAT FRAME COLOR TO CHOOSE?

The problem with traditional opticians is that the colors they offer for eyeglass frames are often safe. Unfortunately, these colors won't necessarily flatter blue eyes as much as brown eyes or green eyes. To choose your fashion accessory, the best practice is to identify the color range that will enhance your features the most. This will depend on your eyes, of course, but also on your skin and hair.

To identify the perfect colors for you, here are some tips:

  • They soften your face and bring a touch of light to it.
  • They fade your wrinkles and any dark circles.
  • They make you look healthy.

3/ DON'T FORGET THE OTHER ASSETS OF YOUR FACE.

  • Your head size

Do you have a small head? Opt for small-sized eyeglass frames, making sure that the width of your glasses is not greater than the widest part of your head.

Do you have a large head? Then opt for frames that are also large.

  • Your eyebrows

To make your eyebrows and your glasses agree, make sure the upper part of your frame comes just below your eyebrows. They contribute to the expression of your face, so they must be visible! Moreover, if your eyebrows were "caught" in the frame of your glasses, you would risk losing all the class that characterizes you!

If you choose a frame whose upper line is curved, make sure it follows the line of your eyebrows. The secret is to harmonize the shape of your eyebrows with that of your glasses as much as possible. Concretely, this means that if your eyebrows are straight, round lenses will probably not flatter you…

  • The spacing of your eyes

For people whose eyes are wide apart, Le Petit Lunetier recommends wearing a frame with a dark bridge. This will give the impression that your eyes are closer together. If, on the contrary, your eyes are already rather close to each other, opt for a light-colored and/or thin bridge.

  • Your nose

Bridges with a very large contact surface with the skin give the illusion of shortening the nose. Short noses will prefer high bridges and lighter colors.

4/ WHAT FRAME COLOR TO CHOOSE?

Before letting you make your choice, here are our last tips:

  • The ideal model is one that follows the line of your eyebrows, provided that the lenses do not touch your cheekbones when you smile, and that your eyelashes do not touch your lenses.
  • Whatever the shape of your face, the shape of your glasses should improve its oval.
  • Your frame should fit between the outer corner of your eyes and the end of your temple. If it extends beyond, the frame is too wide for your face.
  • Have fun! If you choose a pair that follows these recommendations but with which you don't feel comfortable, you won't wear them for long. Let your personality express itself!

Your lifestyle can also influence your choice. Athletes will be more inclined towards lightweight models, while terrace aficionados or screen addicts can allow themselves more freedom.

Note that all these tips apply to both sunglasses and prescription glasses. However, if your prescription requires thick lenses, you will probably have fewer choices. Not all frames can support all lens thicknesses. For example, progressive lenses require an "upward-rising" frame.
