Find out more about our glasses and proper protection from the sun

Just as we protect our skin from ultra-violet rays (UV) with sun cream, we should also protect our eyes with high-quality sunglasses. When summer is just around the corner and we are looking forward to spending long days at the beach or strolling through the city, we need to know how to choose the best sunglasses for our needs.

In this respect the law is strict, and is there to protect you - the consumer - from products of insufficient quality.

Here at Le Petit Lunetier, we ensure that all of our products meet the strictest standards.

Which standards and regulations are these?

With the return of spring and summer, the light conditions change - and with them the need to protect our eyes. When selecting the right sunglasses, you should bear the following in mind:

1/ The CE mark: this is mandatory for all products that are sold in the EU. All of our sunglasses offer 100% protection from UV rays and are CE certified.

2/ UV protection category: our lenses correspond with UV protection category 3 (category 4 is reserved for sunglasses for Alpine sports and water sports on the open sea). They filter out 90% of the sunlight and protect the eyes from strong light exposure (during summer, on holiday at the seaside, or during winter sports). Make sure that you don't spend too much time in the sun without protection.

3/ Last but not least, our products are subject to the strictest CE standards. All of our models correspond with the EN ISO (12312-1-2013) standard.

Good to know:

  • Larger sunglasses offer more effective protection, as they prevent sunlight from reaching your eyes from the side.
  • The colour of the lens doesn't correspond with the strength of the protection offered: so very dark glasses do not automatically offer better protection than coloured lenses.

EFFECTS OF UV LIGHT: WHY SHOULD WE PROTECT OUR EYES?

Ultra-violet rays are the cause of many eye problems. Even though our iris automatically regulates the size of our pupils in stronger light, this does not offer sufficient protection. Wearing high-quality sunglasses can help to prevent the formation of wrinkles around the eyes. Above all, wearing sunglasses protects our eyes from excessive exposure to UV rays. This can lead to cataracts and neurotrophic keratopathy (a disease affecting the cornea of the eye) and even conjunctival cancer or cancer of the eyelids.

LE PETIT LUNETIER'S SELECTION

For Le Petit Lunetier, the high quality of our sunglasses is our starting point. As qualified opticians, we can assess every order and every prescription. Our sunglasses are tested in the laboratory and carry the CE mark, which indicates protection category 3. Our opticians control and adjust your prescription lenses in our Parisian atelier.

To ensure that our frames are solid and of high quality, we work with laboratories and ensure that no lead (which can be poisonous) or nickel (which can cause allergic reactions) are used. And if you experience any problems, our customer service team is there to take care of any repairs or replacements, if your model is no longer available.
